How coffee affects your productivity

The use of coffee is very widespread, especially among people in different sectors of tech. But why is this? Does coffee magically increase productivity?

What is productivity?

We often assume that productivity means getting more things done each day. Wrong. Productvity is getting important things done in good time. And no matter what you're working on, there are only a few things that are truly important.

How does our brain react to Coffee?

Coffee increase energy metabolism throughout the brain but decreases at the same time blood flow, inducing a relative brain hypoperfusion. So what this means is that Coffee acts as a stimulant, giving you the feeling of alertness.

In some uncommon cases, people related that consuming coffee has a reverse effect on them. They feel sleepy and lazy.

Coffee Vs. Productivity

People have different experiences with coffee during their careers. Some take it very often, some take it occassionally when there's need for alertness, some take it casually without any expectation while others do not take it because of how they react to it or because they do not see a need to.

We are not going to be discussing health effects of coffee, we are going to discussing how coffee affects productivity.

Many people agree that Coffee has always been to keep a mind sharp and alert even at odd hours, which is a chance to be productive, but the willingness to be productive comes into play directly. You could drink coffee and use the time to watch movies because you can't sleep.

Other people have argued that they are more productive when their brain is relaxed and coffee makes them hyperactive.

Whether you use coffee when you have a long stretch of coding to do, or you want to stay up night to read, or you need to give your brain the required boost, we all agree that you're stimulating your brain to increase your productive hours.

Coffee can be a good thing, however it can come with tradeoffs too like feeling tired or lightheaded etc.

So whether you take coffee regularly, occassionally, casually or never, it doesn't really matter as long as you put in the right amount of work need to be the best version of yourself.
